Why Do They Trample on Our Dreams & Goals?

I repeatedly get the following question from my readers:

“How do I deal with close friends and family members who don't share my aspirations for success (and many times shoot me down)?”

This is a very common problem.

Many times those closest to us trample all over our dreams & goals. They say things like, "That's just a waste of time", or "Yeah right, what makes you think you can do that?"

    What gives here?

Aren't those closest to us supposed to be supporting us through thick and thin - picking us up when times get tough?

Here are two insights as to why your loved ones will try to trample on your dreams:

    First Reason:

    They’re trying to protect you.

In their minds they believe that the true path is not the one you're taking.

They believe that you're going to get hurt if you go after "some crazy dream." They actually think it can't be done and don't want to see you get your hopes up and then fail.

They're still looking out for your best interests. But they just don’t understand - they haven't "seen the light" so to speak.

Therefore they can't understand what you're doing and try to prevent you from pursuing your dreams.

    Don't resent them for this.

They still love you - they just don't know what you're capable of. (And for that matter what they're capable of.)

    Try to educate them.

Give them books like "How To Think & Grow Rich" by Napolean Hill. Send them to websites like www.SuccessMethods.org

Do anything you can to help them get on their Path to Success. Show them the potential that they have inside.

Become a combined force destined for success!

    Second Reason:

    They’re trying to protect themselves.

Many people don't think they can do it. They don't have faith in themselves and their abilities.

But they're not sure about others. They wonder, "Can you achieve where I've failed?"

Your loved one might have given up on a dream - resigning themselves to a life of conformity. (Or worse, not have even gone after their dream.)

But if you go after your dream and achieve it, and they didn't, how will they feel?

They may want to see you happy. But at the same time they don't want to be emotionally destroyed.

(Imagine that you went after your dream, didn't achieve it, accepted that it couldn't be achieved and continued living a mediocre life. Then you find out you could have done it all along.)

Subconsciously this would be devastating. So the mind takes steps to avoid this possibility from happening.

Thus, you - and your dreams - get shut down.

Don't take this personally either. They just don't know.

Perhaps they didn't try hard enough or persist long enough. Who knows why they fear success.

All that matters is that YOU know. Again, try to educate them and give them the power and drive to succeed.

You can do it. Don't let them bring you down.

    You must bring them UP!!

So there you go...two explanations for the “cynical relative.”

The most important thing for you to remember is that no matter what, you have to be your own cheerleader.

YOU must plan your goals and successes.

    YOU must motivate yourself.

YOU must take action every day.

YOU are the only one who can make your life a success.

Go get everything you want in life. And bring as many people with you as possible - your loved ones first and foremost.

    They'll thank you later.
