The secret to life's questions are not right or wrong but whether you are being served or not. Religion can't answer your questions, only you can answer your questions. Your spiritual growth requires you to ask, “Does this serve me?” This question benefits you in many ways. The first benefit of asking the question “Does this serve me?” is that you must be awake and aware that you are asking the question with the full intention of answering the question. The second benefit of using this tool is that the answer that you get will help determine the direction you take your life and keep you on the path of self-improvement. Every time you ask the question “Does this serve me?” you are defining who you choose to be and then heading in the direction of the beingness you choose. You are charting your course on the sea of life. You are eliminating those time-consuming distractions that are typically ego-based and shortsighted. You are giving up some of your former habits because they no longer serve you. You are not condemning them. You are just not choosing them any more because they no longer serve you. You begin to make choices that will clearly serve you, given your own conscious decision of who you declare yourself to be. This awakening to the true nature of yourself allows you to see yourself in a whole new light. And that's what it is light, instead of darkness and shadows. Light that shines brightly so you can see your path clearly. Light that illuminates your world and allows your spirit to be an equal partner in this three-part being that is commonly known as a human being. As your mind, body and spirit work together in unison, you open yourself up to the love that surrounds you and revel in the glory and wonder of life. You find yourself becoming more child-like in your acceptance of the heaven here on earth that has always been a part of your inheritance. All of this and more opens up to you as you speak the four simple words, “Does this serve me?” Does it serve you to believe that you are a separate being from all other people, places and things in this universe, including God? Or does it serve you to believe that you are one with all people, one with your environment and the universe, and one with God? That is the question I want you to ask yourself right now. The answer you get will be the answer that you, yourself, will make. Your answer will determine who you choose to be at this point in time, and the beingness you choose will determine what you create as a manifestation of that beingness. Isn't this fun? Thinking about who you are and determining who you choose to be? How often in your life have you done that? Once you start waking up to this desire to know yourself it is really hard to go back to sleepwalking because this is such a noble quest. It is hard to think of something more interesting than knowing yourself. Most of us have an easy time figuring out somebody else's life and what they should be and do, but it becomes an entirely different ballgame when we look in the mirror and ask, “Who are you?” Who is this good-looking person staring back at you? You know lots of things about him/her. He/she is intelligent and caring and has a lot more depth of feeling than is projected out into the world. This image in the mirror has a body that seems to be aging, but it also has this voice in the head that never seems to age. This voice is timeless. It has been the same voice that has talked to us since we can first remember. Maybe even before that. Why is it that this observer never seems to age? I like this observer. Sometimes I am really hard on myself for some of the stupid things I have done but this observer just accepts me anyway and observes. It's not like my ego or my sacred self who are there to influence my decisions. Everything is okay to the silent observer. Am I the observer? Am I the observed? Am I the process of observation? Does it serve me to ask these questions? Does it serve me to understand these questions? Does it serve me to answer these questions? Only I can answer, while the silent observer observes.
