Reputation--Part 1

By: D. Scott Arant

Scott asks God about how important it is for reputation in one’s life.

Scott, thank you for asking me about this very important question about life and living. First, I want to ask you a question… What do you think reputation is?

Well, God the only thing I can think of is that it has to do with one’s actions in society and behavior and it is how others might perceive us in the world.

Beautiful, my son…that is a great exposition of your question to me…and with that I will give you mine…Okay? Yes, God…thank you as I need to hear this from you direct.

Reputation is only how you are perceived by others, that is correct, and it does entail your behavior again as seen and perceived by others outside of you. What is reputation? Only the belief you place in it. It has no meaning outside of this. It only matters if you are concerned with how others perceive you and is not the reality of who you really are. It is only perception from your outside world, which has its basis and means in ego. This perception is only what others think and is not how I think about you.

Think back on the teachings of my beloved Jesus the Christ. What was his reputation like? How about Mary of Magdalene? How about Judas Iscariot? How about any of the men and women of the scriptures that you so value…what about their reputations?

Okay, God what about them? Okay, let’s start with the first man recognized as the friend of God in scripture, my son, Abraham. Do you think he was well honored among men and women of his day? Yes, to some degree. What degree? Well, God he was very rich in cattle, silver and gold wouldn’t you agree? Yes, that is true. That again would appeal to mankind wouldn’t it my son? Yes, God they say that “He that makes the gold rules”?

And, what do you say my son? I say that gold is nice, having enough is nice, but it is only external and has nothing to do with the heart. Great. I am so glad that you perceive it this way my beloved…because that is how I see it too. We agree on this. Good, it is nice to know that I am on track on some things God. Follow the path of love my son and you shall always be “on track” as you say.

Okay Scott, let’s get back to my son Abraham. What made him such a friend to me did not make him a friend of his neighbors or associates. What about the time I asked him to sacrifice his most prized son, Isaac up for me on Mount Moriah? Do you think he had a good reputation with those who were in the know of what he was doing? Well, God, I am not so sure that Abraham told too many people about this event. Maybe just a handful of servants. Yes, but I knew him that he was one who honored me above all others and only wanted to express his souls truest purpose. Yes. I am guessing though God that he didn’t tell his wife Sarah about this or she would have had his neck on a platter for supper? Maybe Scott, but he would have had to tell her eventually of the actual sacrifice of Isaac would he not? Yes, that is true God. Scott, I want you to know something…Abraham had already sacrificed Isaac to me before I asked him to go ahead with the actual act of sacrifice to me. I didn’t know this God. Now you do my son. He already had given him to me as a living sacrifice before I ever asked him to go through with the act. (The rest of this dialogue with Scott is continued on Reputation Part 2)
